How Discord fonts work
Discord shows every name and message in its own font, and there is no setting to change it. What you can change is the characters you use. A Discord font generator like this one swaps each letter for a styled twin from the Unicode standard, such as bold gothic, script, double struck or small caps. Discord displays those characters like any other text, so your name or message looks like it is set in a different font.
The featured style here is bold gothic, a favorite for gaming names and servers. ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐

Discord fonts compared with markdown
Inside messages, Discord has its own formatting called markdown. Wrapping text in two asterisks makes it bold, one asterisk makes it italic, two underscores underline it and two tildes strike it through. Our guide to Discord text formatting covers every trick, including headers, spoilers, quotes and code blocks.
Markdown is the better choice for long messages, because it is easy to read and works with screen readers. Unicode fonts are the only option for names and many other fields, and they let you use styles markdown does not offer, such as gothic, script, bubbles and glitch text.
Popular Discord font styles
- Bold gothic for gaming names, clans and metal or fantasy servers.
- Small caps for a neat, quiet name that stays easy to read.
- Bold cursive for elegant or cute profiles.
- Double struck for clean, logo style names.
- Glitch and zalgo for chaotic names and spooky events. See the glitch text generator for more control.
- Strikethrough for jokes in names, since markdown strikes only work in messages. The strikethrough text generator has more line styles.
- Invisible characters for blank looking names. The invisible text generator explains which blanks Discord accepts.
Discord name fonts and tips for a good name
Make it mentionable. Friends will try to type your name to mention you. A name that is all gothic or glitch letters is hard to mention. Mixing one styled word with a plain one helps.
Stay within 32 characters. Glitch styles add marks that count toward the limit.
Check the server rules. Some servers ask for readable names so moderators can find people.
Test on mobile. Discord on phones and on desktop may draw rare characters slightly differently.
Discord font ideas by server type
Different communities suit different styles. Here are some pairings that tend to look good.
| Server type | Style to try | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
| Gaming and esports | Bold gothic or bold sans | Strong and easy to spot in a member list |
| Art and writing | Cursive or italic serif | Feels creative and personal |
| Study and work | Small caps | Neat, quiet and readable |
| Horror and roleplay | Creepy or zalgo, kept short | Sets the mood instantly |
| Tech and coding | Typewriter | Looks like code |

Fonts in channel and role names
Server owners often use styled letters for channel and role names to give a server a theme. Keep channel names short and readable, since members need to find them quickly. Small caps and double struck are popular because they look tidy in the sidebar. Avoid zalgo and heavy glitch styles in channel names, which can overlap other channels in the list.
Standing out without fancy fonts
Fonts are only one way to make a profile memorable. A clear avatar, a short About Me, and a consistent name across servers often matter more. If a server bans styled names, a plain name with one well chosen emoji can still stand out.
Discord fonts on mobile
The Discord mobile apps show Unicode fonts just like the desktop app, so a styled name looks the same to everyone. To change your name on a phone, copy a style here, open Discord, tap your profile picture, choose Edit Profile and paste into Display Name. For a server nickname, open the server, tap its name at the top and choose the option to edit your per server profile.
Some older Android phones may show a rare character as an empty box. Bold, cursive, small caps and double struck are the most widely supported, so they are the safest choices for a name that everyone will see correctly.
